About this opportunity

You will complete a Certificate III in Horticulture over 24 months through a combination of formal training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and practical on-the-job experience with your Host Employer, Shoalhaven City Council.

Your Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day gardening tasks, including planting, pruning, weeding, and watering.
  • Operate and maintain lawn mowers, edgers, chainsaws, pole saws, and other horticultural equipment.
  • Assist in the maintenance and care of parks, gardens, and green spaces.
  • Participate in small plant maintenance and propagation activities.
  • Conduct weed control and implement weed spraying techniques.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure the overall health and aesthetic appeal of landscapes.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines when working with equipment and chemicals.
  • Attend training sessions and educational workshops to enhance your horticultural knowledge.

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following capabilities and knowledge:

  • Demonstrated interest and passion for the industry
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn and develop new skills and knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask in a busy environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment and positively contribute to team goals
  • Ability to undertake a Pre-Employment Medical including Audiometry, Spirometry and a drug and alcohol screen

It will help if you have

  • Current drivers licence (P1 or above)
  • WHS Construction White Card
